Cox & Luckman, Birmingham - English Shooting Plane 1 of 2

This is a follow up to my recent post on shooting boards and planes.

The subject of this post is an English shooting plane that was probably commercially manufactured for use in shop classes since it is very simple, has a small thumb tote, and the blade is not skewed.

The fore end is impressed (upside down), "Cox & Luckman, Birmingham" and below that is stamped, "Henry Otley, 82 Oxford St., Manchester. Cox & Luckman were in business 1839-1914.

Henry Otley was in business 1884-1912 as a tool dealer and sawmaker.

The blade is marked, "Thos. Firth & Sons" and appears to be original. Fifth was in Sheffield, England and was a renowned steelmaker, having produced the steel for Samuel Colt's firearms.
