Working with Hands - James E. Price

Two Small Planes by James E. Price 1 of 2

These photos show two planes I made at the same time I made the planes in my last post.

The top one is actually a little jointer plane that I use to make perfect edges on little boards for tool cases. I find that it works for me better than a Stanley block plane which is much bigger.

The essential parts of the plane are in the brass channel section and the wooden sole extension is the bottom of the mahogany handle. I also use it for rapidly cutting chamfers.

After I finished that plane and used it to cut chamfers, I decided I needed a stop chamfer or chisel plane as an accompanying tool so I made a companion for it. I cast the lever cap screw and threaded it.
