Brexit and my Mullet 1 of 8

I call my latest shoulder plane, "Brexit" because shortly after the UK vote to exit the European Union the US Dollar rose significantly...

... against the Pound Sterling and I hit the "Buy It Now" button on this fine plane on eBay UK. It arrived shortly at my door and after inspecting it, I knew I had made a good decision to purchase it.

The iron is four times thicker than on a Record shoulder plane and the thick steel sole was expertly silver soldered to the gunmetal body. There is lots of steel remaining in the cutter. It was already sharp but I honed the cutting edge to scary sharp, ending with diamond paste.

After I adjusted it, I immediately reached for some mahogany, poplar, and walnut to build a case for it to keep it in its prime condition for the next owner.

I thought members here would like to see the build of the case. I remembered to take plenty of photos to share this time and selected those that show the highlights of a quick build.

Squaring the mahogany stock for the case sides and ends.

Smoothing the faces of the stock for the sides and ends of the case.

Plowing the grooves for the poplar bottom and walnut sliding lid.
