English Gunmetal Chariot Plane 1 of 2

This English gunmetal chariot plane with ebony infill recently found
a home with me.

The front ebony infill is flush, or overstuffed, on one side but on the other side it is totally inside the body. I think some previous owner sawed the overstuff off that side but it was done long, long ago. I have used chariot planes like this many years and I see no advantage if having an asymmetrical front bun. Any of you ever see asymmetrical stuffing like this on an infill plane before?

A fine chariot plane it is but note that on the front left side the infill
is totally within the body and on the other side it extends over the side.

In this photo you can see that the front bun is asymmetrical.

This is another view of the asymmetrical bun.

A previous owner may have sawed the overstuffing away, but why?
