Working with Hands - James E. Price

  Adams' Countersink

My post today in the parade of countersinks is one such tool patented by D. J. Adams on January 23, 1877 and assigned Patent Number  186,513.

Adams' countersink is adjustable by loosening a screw and rotating a threaded collar to advance the cutter and give it a ranker cut. Examples of this countersink are moderately scarce so if you see one in the wild, latch onto it because they are a pleasure to use.

This photo shows two versions of Adams' Countersink. The one on the right is probably the earliest since when it was made it was marked Patent Pending. The one on the left is imprinted with the patent date.

This photo shows the adjustable cutting heads of Adams' Patent.

This is a view of the back of Adams' Patent Countersinks.
