Making a Winding Sticks by Jim Hendricks

Lovely flower!

Some lovely old violin templates were used to seek inspiration for the profiles then when cut traced and copied to the other end.

The old KT TOOLS "knife" cutting gauge was sharpened for the occasion and cuts the line down the centre without following the grain, a trait often found with some other types.

The end profile transferred to the other end.

Now to choose a marker. I decided that if the background were dark. A dark marker would not show up and if bright, it would disappear into the background. So how about a sandwich of both.

In keeping with only using native woods I had only one choice for each from my collection. English boxwood for the light colour and 5300 year old Norfolk bog oak for the dark.
