Getting Over the Blues by Jim Hendricks

2 of 3

Applying the Super Blue requires gloves, nitrite gloves, like Smurfs wear! This stuff is pretty nasty if you get it anywhere other than the metal.

Left side waiting, right side done.

Once all the chisels were blued and the residue washed off with water then meths, it was time to protect the bluing with Barricade. This is a fantastic product. Not only does it disperse moisture but it also cures and leaves a barrier (hence the name) against further oxidation.

The bluing has come out rather nice. Of course the shinier you can get the steel the better the finish. But I wasn't all that bothered about looks - it was the protection I was after.

And there you have it...
Chisel fettled, blued and barricaded for the winter... Nice!
