Now to get on with handle making!

I moved on to the rear handle, deciding on the shape, making a template, choosing the boxwood blank and orientating the template for maximum strength. I used a devil with tail to cut the centre holes. You can of course use a spade or auger bit in a brace.

I am taking this slowly because there are many distinct stages.

I chose this 200 year old design from Christopher Gabriel
and cut a profile in a template card.


I made two templates: one seen here without the tenon to check
against the body and one with a tenon for full outline.
